Picked this up off RSD this morning:
After much discussion, both internally and with our friends on other teams, Georgia has decided to decline Cultimate’s offer to join Conference 1.
The team goes on to voice its concerns with Conference1, which you can read by visiting the Ultimate Frisbee Strategy/Coaching blog.
In other news, I had to reschedule my interview with Skip from Cultimate due to a technical difficulty on my end. I hope to secure another time either later today or tomorrow to speak with him about Conference1.
I also will have some information from the Texas team at some point today, so stay tuned for that.

good for Georgia! I’m glad that a major team is stating their opinions publicly. They bring up some very important points.
I will speculate that some things were left unsaid as well. Cultimate boasts the great Florida/Georgia rivalry. Well Georgia probably doesn’t appreciate lining the pockets of some asshole from Florida. There is probably a lot of bad blood.
Also, who are these guys going to pay to be referees? Probably a lot of their friends from FLA, TX, and the Seattle area. If (when) money gets tight Cyle and Skip will end up being the refs. It sucks to be one of the teams at Conference 1 nationals playing FLA with FLA alum refereeing the game.
The inherent bias in the system is one of the best arguements against it. The UPA process, though not perfect, is at least unbiased.
Muff, are you speculating that Georgia turned down the offer because the bad blood with Florida is so strong that they would make such an important decision based on not “lining the pockets” of Cyle?
Or because, in a hypothetical game down the road, when hypothetically Georgia is playing Florida, and hypothetically they’ve run out refs, there is a chance that Cyle will ref the game?
The bias in the system is that a former Florida player will somehow screw Georgia?
Georgia made this decision very early, with only cursory information. I am surprised that they’d decide so quickly and with so little detail about the entire concept.
Yes. As i stated, I was speculating.
Are there any good reasons to do so? No
Do I have the first shread of evidence to support any of my crazy claims? No
It is based on nothing but a random walk in my mind. That’s what makes it speculation. No one should take it serioiusly. I didn’t think much about it before I posted but I guess it may have been irresponsible to say.
You missed the best arguement against my rambling, though. In the course of a 100 word post I managed to claim both that Cyle will get rich off of this and that he will not have enough money to pay refs.
In conclusion, you win on all points, even though you didn’t make any. Well played
I think you killed the comment section though, Socrates. You came in here demanding for people to use reason and be accountable for what they say and no one will post any comments under the new topics.
My bad.
My background is with an ulti team (tulane) whose goal was to finish respectably at regionals, and whose source of ulti info was rsd and the opinions of those in my region, like Mike and this blog, so I guess my motivation is to make sure information is accurate.
Plus, I got too old to post drunkenly, so I’m way less fun.
Or maybe it’s just my Tulane-ness, and the fact that we never beat Mike over at LSU, that’s comin through here. Who knows. I just hope this whole mess leads to a better college season.
“I just hope this whole mess leads to a better college season.”
Amen brother!
And we still have not, but every year is a new year. Also, one is never too old to post drunkenly at least once a year.
On topic, it will be interesting to see if other teams follow suit. Reading RSD, all the teams seem to have one huge email thing going and are pretty much waiting for other teams to make a move. It is pretty much looking like an all or nothing deal for C1.
